Several years ago at a yarn trade show, I learned about "swing knitting". Using short rows and garter stitch, all sorts of swirly designs may be created, giving the finished piece a stained glass effect. What fun I had dyeing the yarn, swooping here and swirling there, and then finishing the tote by fulling (aka felting) it in the washing machine.
